Jac Kritzinger

A Poetic Lens on Reality

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1976, Jac Kritzinger's journey through the world of visual media culminated in a profound connection with photography after obtaining an Honours Degree in Film Studies. His work, which spans art, documentary, and portrait photography, reflects a deep engagement with both the medium and the stories it can tell.

Kritzinger's photographs have gained recognition both locally and internationally, contributing to notable exhibitions such as "The Image Says it All" during the Cape Town Month of Photography and "CMYK" under the auspices of the Everard Read Group. His talent was further acknowledged with a Highly Commended prize at the PICA 2012 Awards for Photography/Photojournalism, marking him as a significant voice in the field.

Considering himself a poet before a photographer, Kritzinger seeks to explore and elucidate the essence of everyday reality—a realm where words often fall short. His work is an invitation to perceive the world through a unique lens, capturing the luminous moments that lie just beyond the ordinary.

Kritzinger articulates his approach to photography as being influenced by his inherent wanderlust, his dedication to his craft, and his ability to distill the quintessence of his subjects into each shot. His success, he notes, is also buoyed by a sense of humor—an element that infuses his work with warmth and relatability.

In his own words: "We all have our own unique way of viewing the world; in my case, seeing and capturing that which shines behind the confines of everyday reality has become a way of life. Beyond that, I believe my wanderlust, workaholism, and the ability to convey the essence of my subject has contributed to my photographic success. And also having a sense of humour doesn’t hurt."

Jac Kritzinger's photographic oeuvre is a testament to the power of visual poetry in uncovering the profound and often overlooked beauty of the mundane. Through his lens, viewers are invited to explore the world anew, finding depth and meaning in the everyday.
